ISU Head Coach Tim Jankovich Leaves For SMU

SMU has hired Illinois State basketball coach Tim Jankovich to be its head coach-in-waiting under Larry Brown.

Brown announced the hiring of Jankovich as associate head coach in a statement Thursday.

The 71-year-old Brown took over the SMU program Monday.

Illinois State went 105-64 with four NIT appearances over the past five seasons under Jankovich. Previously, he spent five years as an assistant to Bill Self in Self's one year as head coach at Illinois and four at Kansas.

Jankovich's first job as a head coach was at North Texas in 1993-97, where he led the Mean Green from a 5-21 record the season before his arrival to a 14-15 mark in his 1993-94 maiden season.
