A former employee at a group home in central Illinois has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a developmentally disabled resident.
In court Friday, Keyun Newble admitted pushing the man but said he intervened to stop a co-worker and co-defendant from beating him even more severely.
A jury found him guilty. Newble is scheduled to be sentenced July 6 and faces up to 14 years in prison.
He worked at a network of group homes run by the non-profit Graywood Foundation that have since closed.
Prosecutors alleged the victim, Paul McCann, died in January 2011 after a beating by Newble and his co-defendant. McCann's ribs were broken in 13 places and he later died when his lungs filled with fluid.
