Local Economy Showing Signs of Turn Around

Perhaps the economy is picking back up.

Unemployment in Illinois dropped once again in March and in DeWitt County, unemployment hovers right around 8%. Executive Director of the DeWitt County Development Council, Ruth Stauffer says they keep track of employment figures and in 2011, we saw steady growth and she feels 2012 is well its way to that same trend.

Over the year a number of businesses have opened up in DeWitt County and Stauffer says that is a great sign of economic turnaround. She says no matter the economy, there is always going to be gains and losses.

This winter saw record setting sales tax figures in Clinton. Many Clinton officials feels the mild winter had a lot to do with that. Other projected factors include rising gas prices and the fore-mentioned new businesses in the area.
