Police Department's Take Back Initiative Turns Over 400-Pounds of Drugs To DEA

The final weekend of April the Clinton Police Department hosted their annual "Take Back Initiative" at the Police Department.

The initiative is in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration's "P2D2" program. Last week, Clinton Police turned over 400 pounds of unused drugs to the DEA. Officer Ben Lowers explains the total is a combination of drugs collected April 28 along with drugs they had collected from those turned in from the lobby of the Police Department.

As reported earlier this week, the Police Department also conducted an alcohol compliance check with 20 of the establishments in Clinton with liquor licenses. Officer Lowers explains they strive for 100% compliance, and he commends those businesses who refused sales to the covert underaged buyers. The establishments that sold to minors were Sophie's, Pizza Hut, and 3 Star Restaurant.

Those who were not compliant in the "stings" will have to attend a hearing before Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters. Mayor Peters says she is disappointed there was not 100% compliance. She feels it is unacceptable for establishments in the area to be serving minors with alcohol.

It is interesting to point out, these compliance checks were done around prom time for schools around the area.

The students the Clinton Police Department used were from out of the area.
