Letter Carriers Collecting Food For Local Pantries

The largest food drive around the country takes place this Saturday.

Letter carriers around the area, state and country will be collecting canned goods this Saturday as a part of the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Butch Larson is leading the charge locally, he explains this is the 20th year for the food drive that provides a boost to the local pantries.

The volunteers helping this Saturday will help assist mail carriers in collecting the donations. Larson says donating is as easy as placing your donation in a bag or box out near your mailbox or on your doorstep.

Last year, local carriers were able to collect over two-tons of food. Larson says with the number of people relying on food banks increasing over the past few years, the donations they have received have been decreasing.

Last year across the country, 70.2-million pounds of food was donated.

Anyone interested in lending a hand to the mail carriers this weekend can show up their local post office around 8:30 Saturday morning.

All the food donated goes to local food pantries.
