A Peoria city councilman has asked for a report to make sure the theft of taxpayer money like the one that shook the city of Dixon cannot happen in his city.
Councilman Bill Spears requested a policy report on how the city's finances are handled.
Spears says he has no reason to believe there is any specific cause for concern. But he says a review would alert officials to any vulnerabilities that might require changes in policy.
In the case in Dixon, the city's former comptroller is accused of stealing $53 million by siphoning public funds into a secret bank account. She handled all of the city's finances.
Finance officials in Peoria say they have more checks and balances in place.
