With Mother's Day this Sunday, doing something special for Mom is on the mind of most everyone. How about showing mom or grandma a way to save up to $4-thousand a year.
Something a mother, grandmother, or anyone special in your life on Medicare can take advantage of is a program called "Extra Help". Jack Myers with Social Security explains Social Security takes applications for financial assistance with the "Extra Help" program.

The money from the financial assistance can bridge the gap between gaps in coverages, or having co-pays and deductibles paid for. Myers says this can really be a great help for that special person in your life who may be struggling financially.

When applying for the assistance, there are some income and asset limits that must be met. Myers says assets such as a home or vehicle are not counted against them when applying. Assets that are counted are bank account balances, investments or stocks and bonds.
