Early Spring Doesn't Phase Weldon Springs, Clinton Lake Staff or Visitors

The early spring gave outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to be outside earlier than normal.

Those that enjoy the peaceful nature of Weldon Springs and walking the trails or enjoy Clinton Lake got out earlier than normal this year. Enjoy Clinton Lake or Weldon Springs as early as some were able to would not have been possible without some hard work by those in the Department of Natural Resources. Tom Jackson, Site Superintendent at Clinton Lake and Weldon Springs says his crew answered the bell in getting the sites ready on short notice.

According to Jackson, getting the water going for the year is a challenge they face. He explains it is because they do not know when the final frost or freeze may occur that could cause some problems for them.

The routine maintenance of trimming tree lines or getting brush cleaned up is something DNR focuses on during the winter. Jackson says this allows them to focus on making sure everything is in order once guests start coming in.

Jackson feels those who frequent the park were pleasantly surprised they were able to come out so early, and right away begin their usual activities.
