Cubs Top Cards; Sox Beat Tigers; Beltran Named POTW

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Alfonso Soriano's RBI single in the top of the eighth inning was the difference as the Cubs clipped the Cardinals, 6-4.  Bryan LaHair went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Northsiders, who have won back-to-back games.  Shawn Camp tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Ryan Dempster to register the win.  Rafael Dolis [[ doe-LEASE ]] worked a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his fourth save.  Dempster was once again denied his first victory of the season after allowing four runs through six innings of duty.  He is 0-and-1 with a 1.74 ERA in six starts this season.  Yadier Molina's two-run double highlighted a four-run sixth frame for St. Louis.  Mitchell Boggs was saddled with the loss.  The Cards have dropped four straight games.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Adam Dunn hit his 12th homer of the season, a two-run shot, as the White Sox edged the Tigers, 7-5.  Dayan Viciedo also hit a two-run bomb and added a two-RBI single for Chicago, which halted a two-game skid to win for the fourth time in six games.  Zach Stewart threw three scoreless relief innings and Addison Reed earned his third save.  Prince Fielder hit a two-run double and Delmon Young followed with a run-scoring double of his own for Detroit in the first.  Luke Putkonen suffered the loss after allowing three runs while recording just one out.  The Tigers have lost four of their last six.

(New York, NY)  --  St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran is the National League Player of the Week.  Beltran hit .360 with six home runs, 13 RBI and eight runs scored last week.  It was the ninth career weekly honor for Beltran.  Teammates Allen Craig and Rafael Furcal were also considered.
