Cards Win; Sox, Cubs Crushed

(San Francisco, CA)  --  David Freese belted a go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning to back seven-and-a-third strong innings from Jaime Garcia as the Cardinals clipped the Giants, 4-1.  Garcia struck out nine and allowed just one run on nine hits to improve to 3-and-2 on the season.  Jason Motte closed it out in the ninth to nail down his seventh save for St. Louis, which has won back-to-back games on the heels of a four-game slide.  Buster Posey's RBI single in the sixth accounted for San Francisco's lone run of the game.  Madison Bumgarner gave up all four runs through seven-and-a-third innings of work to fall to 5-and-3.

>>Phillies Crush Cubs

(Chicago, IL)  --  Hector Luna clubbed a grand slam in the ninth inning as the Phillies scored seven unanswered runs en route to a 9-2 win over the Cubs.  Carlos Ruiz added a solo shot and scored three times for the Phillies, who have won four games in-a-row.  Jose Contreras worked a perfect inning in relief of Kyle Kendrick to register the win.  Alfonso Soriano's two-run homer in the fourth frame accounted for Chicago's only runs of the game.  Shawn Camp was saddled with the loss for the Cubs, who have dropped back-to-back games.

(Anaheim, CA)  --  Albert Pujols clubbed a three-run homer to back eight strong innings from Jerome Williams as the Angels cruised to a 7-2 win over the White Sox.  Williams fanned five and allowed just the two runs on 10 hits to improve to 4-and-1 on the season.  Vernon Wells blasted a two-run shot for the Halos, who have won back-to-back games.  Dayan Viciedo smacked a solo homer and Gordon Beckham had an RBI double for Chicago in defeat.  Gavin Floyd gave up all seven runs in six innings of work to suffer the loss for the Southsiders, who have dropped four of their last five games.
