White Sox Hold Off Cubs

Gordan Beckham's solo homer in the top of the eighth inning lifted the White Sox to a 3-2 Interleague win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.  Paul Konerko hit a two-run shot in the first inning but left the game after being hit with a pitch near his left eye in the third.  Matt Thornton got the win in relief and Addison Reed his fourth save.  Starlin Castro and starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija [[ suh-MARD-juh ]] singled in runs for the Cubs.  Samardzija pitched into the eighth and took the loss.  Cubs reliever Kerry Wood struck out the only batter he faced and announced his retirement after the game.
