Six people, including the daughter of a state senator, are vying to be the third-party challenger to indicted state Rep. Derrick Smith.
Angelique Momon-Collins, daughter of state Sen. Annazette Collins, is seeking to be slated by the 10th District Unity Party. Momon-Collins' mother was defeated by Patricia Van Pelt-Watkins, who criticized the senator's questionable legislative scholarship awards.
Also seeking the party's mantle is Lance Tyson, a former aide to ex-Cook County Board President Todd Stroger.
A group of Chicago Democrats, led by Secretary of State Jesse White, created the third party after Smith refused to resign after his indictment in March.
Smith is accused of accepting a $7,000 bribe in a FBI sting in exchange for writing a letter supporting a state grant for a day care operation.
