>> Illinois Hires Western Michigan Staffer

Former Western Michigan assistant coach Tim Knox has been hired as director of football operations at Illinois.

Illini head coach Tim Beckman in a news release Monday called Knox a great fit for a position that requires strong organizations skills.

The director of football operations handles the logistics of team travel, summer camps, preseason training camp in Rantoul and community service.

Knox has been an assistant at Western Michigan for 15 years. He started as a graduate assistant and was later running backs coach and then director of football operations.

Illinois will play home games against three marquee Big Ten matchups and its in-state rival during the 2015 football season.

The Big Ten released the conference schedules for 2015 and 2016 on Monday.

The Illini will play Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State and Northwestern at home in 2015. Road games will be at Purdue, Iowa, Indiana and Penn State.

The 2016 home schedule includes Penn State, Indiana, Iowa and Purdue. The Illini will go on the road for what figure to be tough games at Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan. Illinois will close the conference season at Northwestern.

Nonconference schedules for 2015 and 2016 have not been set.
