Cards Win; Sox, Cubs Lose; Sox Sign Hudson

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Adam Wainwright fired a complete-game shutout as the Cardinals blanked the Padres 4-0 in the middle of a three-game series.  Wainwright struck out nine while allowing four hits and one walk as he upped his mark to 3-and-5.  Carlos Beltran drove in a pair of runs and Tyler Greene and Matt Holliday also plated a run each for the Cards, who will go for the sweep on Wednesday.  Edinson Volquez allowed three runs on six hits and four walks over six frames to fall to 2-and-4 with the loss.  San Diego has lost four-of-six.

(Houston, TX)  --  J.D. Martinez's RBI single in the sixth proved to be the difference as the Astros clipped the Cubs, 2-1.  Jose Altuve clubbed a solo homer in the first frame for Houston, which has won back-to-back games.  J.A. Happ struck out six through six innings of one-run ball to pick up the win.  Brett Myers worked a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his 11th save.  Alfonso Soriano's solo dinger in the fourth frame accounted for Chicago's lone run of the game.  Travis Wood gave up both runs in five-and-two-third innings of duty to suffer the tough-luck loss for the Northsiders, who have lost eight straight games.

(Chicago, IL)  --  Justin Morneau clubbed a three-run homer to back a complete-game gem by P.J. Walters as the Twins crushed the White Sox, 9-2.  Walters struck out eight and gave up just two runs on five hits to improve to 2-and-1 on the season.  Josh Willingham and Alexi Casilla plated two runs apiece for Minnesota, which has won five of its last six games.  Gordon Beckham popped a solo home run and Paul Konerko knocked in Chicago's other run in a losing effort.  Gavin Floyd was rocked for all nine runs in three-and-two-third innings of duty to suffer the loss.  The Southsiders had won their last four games.

>>White Sox Sign Hudson, Morel To DL

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Orlando Hudson.  The 34-year-old hit .211 with five triples, one home run and 11 RBI in 35 games with San Diego this season before being released last Thursday.  Hudson is a career .276 hitter in 11 seasons with the Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Twins and Padres.  He helps fill the void left by third baseman Brent Morel, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain.
