Crack Down On Disabled Parking

A proposal headed to Governor Quinn's desk could spark outrage among some disabled drivers.  It tightens up standards on who qualifies to receive handicapped parking privileges.  If you're disabled but physically capable of walking and putting a coin in a parking meter, you may not be eligible to park in handicapped spots.  The measure comes after Secretary of Jesse White teamed up with law enforcement agencies across the state to uncover widespread disabled parking abuse.   The proposal also bumps up the fine for those who use a disabled parking placard that doesn't belong to them.
