Rep. Mitchell Opposes Medicaid Overhaul

The Illinois House passed pieces of a Medicaid overhaul Thursday, including legislation slashing $1.6 billion from the program.

In voting against the measure, State Representative Bill Mitchell says the legislation keeps benefits for illegal residents living in the state but cut benefits for Illinois’  senior citizens.

The House voted 94-22 to adopt the cuts in the bill, which range from outright elimination of some programs – like Illinois Cares Rx, a prescription drug assistance program for seniors – to taking extra steps to ensure that those receiving aid are entitled to it. The bill now heads to Quinn’s desk.
