Clinton High School Gym Floor To Receive Repairs This Summer

Add the Clinton High School gym floor to the list of upgrades at the high school.

After investigating the aging floor, it turns out almost 40-percent of the main gym floor is 'dead'. Superintendent of the Clinton School district Dr. Jeff Holmes explains they have a floating floor attached to sleepers, and those sleepers have become detached.

An initial quote to make repairs to the floor came in at just over $100-thousand. Dr. Holmes explains that quote repairs current detached sleepers, but does not guarantee other sleepers won't come detached in the future, which led to a quote of over $180-thousand to repair the whole floor.

Because of the possibility of other sleepers under the floor becoming detached, Dr. Holmes recommended to the Board of Education to replace the entire floor. He feels it makes long term economical sense.

The Board of Education sent the project out for bid with a target of having the work done this summer. It would be an estimated eight week project. The high school gym will only be host to one early summer event, opening up basically the entire summer for the job to be done.

The entire east to west, north to south main gym floor will be redone.

Dr. Holmes points out, come the start of school next fall, the gym will look the exact same, but it will be a much better surface.
