Union Worker's In Joliet Reject Caterpillar Offer

Union workers at Joliet's Caterpillar Inc. plant have again rejected a contract proposal from the company.

Steve Jones, the union's directing business agent says workers voted 504-116 on Wednesday against Peoria-based Caterpillar's latest proposal. About 800 workers from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers rejected a previous offer from Caterpillar and went on strike earlier this month.

The company has said production at the plant wouldn't be disrupted. The facility manufactures hydraulics and other components for mining trucks, tractors and other machines. Caterpillar has called the strike vote unfortunate.

The details of the latest contract proposal weren't made public.
