Community Action Looking For Applicants For Head Start Programs

Community Action is currently recruiting for their Head Start program.

Head Start is a free program available to children ages 3 to 5 of low income families in the counties of DeWitt, Piatt, Logan, Menard, Mason and Fulton. This program gives them the opportunity to make sure they meet requirements kindergarten teacher's expect of their incoming students.

According to homebase manager Shelly Lee, classes are up to 16 students and each one has 3 teachers. Not only is it a preschool, but teachers watch for potential health issues students have and address them.

Head Start programs are targeted for families of low income. Community Action bases who gets into their programs by how much the family needs something like this program.

All teachers in the Head Start program are required to have a bachelors degree and all teacher's aides are required to have an associates degree, which Lee says is not required for many preschool programs.
