Triple Digit Heat Expected To Continue

Organizers are canceling an architectural walking tour Thursday in Springfield because of the heat. But another event featuring restaurants and music will go on this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through 7 p.m. Saturday for Springfield, Peoria, Champaign, Decatur, Bloomington and other Illinois cities.

Victoria Ringer of Downtown Springfield Inc., an economic development group, says evening temperatures haven't cooled off enough for the walking tour of the Capitol complex to make sense, so it was canceled.

But Ringer say the Taste of Downtown fund-raiser Friday and Saturday is on. It usually draws 15,000 people. Misters and fans will be set up to cool the entertainers and attendees. Medical personnel will be on standby. Ringer says "maybe folks will drink more beverages" to cool off.
