Quinn says the bottom line is the facilities need to be closed if the state is going to have money for schools, healthcare, and public safety.  A total of 62 facilities are being shut down including Dwight Prison, Tamms Prison, and youth detention centers in Joliet and Murphysboro.  Opponents of the plan say moving prisoners could contribute to current overcrowding and endanger the safety of inmates and workers.  Most facilities will shut down on August 31st.
