Blue Ridge's Mansfield Facility Upgrade Underway

The Blue Ridge School District has started building the new extension to Blue Ridge Junior High.

The new extension will be used to replace the old Mansfield Elementary School. The new extension includes nine classrooms and all the bids are in for the extension. Blue Ridge Superintendent Susan Wilson says the project is very exciting.

Wilson is pleased the bids came in below budget. She says the left over money can be used to help fund other projects in the school district. The school district will look at rolling the money over to help update computers and technology and add a new playground.

With nine classrooms being built, the technology upgrades  needed include new smart boards and LCD projectors. The school district is also looking at adding in an amplifying system to help students who have hearing problems. She says the district is trying to find the most cost efficient way to keep their classrooms up to date.

Wilson is hoping for the project to be done before the new school year. The school being replaced Mansfield Elementary is one of two buildings in the Blue Ridge School District without air conditioning.
