Peoria Man Gets 33 Years in Prison For Friend's Death

A judge in central Illinois has sentenced a Peoria man to 33 years in prison for fatally stabbing a friend he'd known since childhood.

42-year-old Justin Cervantes will be 75 when he gets out of prison because he's required to serve his full sentence.

Before being sentenced Thursday, Cervantes apologized to the family Sven Mundt, who was killed in October 2011. Cervantes also apologized to his own family for what he'd put them through.

Prosecutors say Mundt was killed after he and Cervantes argued over a missing pit bull and bottle of whiskey after a night of heavy drinking. Authorities say Cervantes stabbed Mundt more than 20 times.
