Two Peoria Officers Charged In Crash

Two veteran police officers in Peoria are accused of attempting to cover up a drunken driving crash involving 1 of the officers.

Both men were charged Friday.

Prosecutors say vice officer John Couve crashed an unmarked SUV into an electrical transformer and knocked out power to 468 customers in the area. The car was later reported stolen.

The other officer, patrol Sgt. Richard Glover, is accused of giving false information.

The circumstances of the crash were called into question and the Illinois State Police took over the investigation.

Both men are charged with official misconduct and obstructing justice. In addition, Couve is charged with drunken driving and texting while driving.

Couve's attorney, Lee Smith, says he will plead not guilty.
