Scovill Zoo Introduces New Wolf Pup

The Scovill Zoo in Decatur is entering their final weeks of their regular season.

The zoo is now home to a new wolf pup. Assistant Director of the zoo Ken Frye says the young  pup brings a lot more energy to the exhibit. The zoo also has a younger wolf who was in need of a younger playmate, and he says coming out to the zoo, you can witness the two wolves having a good time together.

Right now the zoo has four wolves but Frye explains they have a couple older wolves, one of whom may be in the final days or weeks of his life. Frye notes their older wolves are around 15 or 16 years old, but in the wild they only live around eight years, so they have lived a long life.

Should the wolf pass away, the zoo will certainly look to return it's exhibit to four pups, but Frye notes it all depends on how many wolves are born and if there is a high demand for them elsewhere around the country.

October 14th is the final day the zoo will be open for the season. Frye encourages area residents to come and take advantage of their free admission Thursday which continues to October 11th.
