Constitution Week Being Celebrated Locally By Daughters of the American Revolution

A local group is recognizing a significant anniversary date in American history this week.

The Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR, are recognizing Constitution Week this week. Jane Wattock, Regent of the Clinton and DeWitt County DAR explains their aim this week is to raise awareness in local communities about the Constitution and it's importance.

As a part of Constitution Week, DAR will be reaching out to the kids of the community to raise awareness with them about the Constitution. Wattock explains this is important to the DAR because the youth of today will be the ones to carry on the message of DAR and the Constitution.

This marks the 225th anniversary of the day the Constitution went into effect. Wattock says around the country there will be several events recognize the day and locally this is one of the big weeks of the year for the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The City of Clinton is also recognizing this as Constitution Week. In early September, Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters signed a declaration making this week, September 17-23 Constitution Week.
