DeWitt County Young Leaders Harvest For All Slated For October 1st

The DeWitt County Farm Bureau Young Leaders have announced plans for their annual "Harvest For All" grain collection.

Each harvest season, the local Young Leaders committee spends a day traveling across DeWitt County seeking donations of grain from farmers in the field.  DeWitt County Young Leader Chair John Klemm notes this will be the third year for the effort, and says the support of local farmers has grown each year.

The Young Leaders sell the grain they collect, and then donate 100-percent of the proceeds to local food pantries.  Klemm says the donations are much appreciated by the food pantries.

According to Klemm, the Young Leaders debated whether or not to conduct the grain collection this year due to the devastating drought impacting farmer's yields.  However, he feels going ahead with the drive is a way of showing how the local farming community is willing to step up...even in the face of adversity.

The DeWitt County Farm Bureau Young Leaders "Harvest For All" grain collection is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 1st.  In the event of rain that day, the rain date would be on Wednesday, October 3rd.  DeWitt County farmers should expect to see the "Harvest For All" truck making the rounds.  If you would like to schedule a time to make a donation during the drive, then contact the DeWitt County Farm Bureau at 935-2126.
