A new fishing pier at Weldon Springs State Park will honor a very important person to many people in the Clinton and DeWitt County communities.

A new handicapped fishing pier is in the final planning stages and construction should begin soon. Site Superintendent at Clinton Lake and Weldon Springs, Tom Jackson explains this pier will replace the pier that sits across the lake from the Veterans Memorial. Jackson adds they have been collecting money for this from the Weldon Springs Foundation, and also money will be contributed from Dave Herzog's Memorial Fund.

Jackson notes they have a pretty aggressive time line to get estimates in and work beginning soon. He says they hope to have the pier complete by the end of this year.

Jackson says if anyone wants to still make a donation to the pier, it is not too late. He says they are still seeking funding for the project as well as contractors interested in donating time or supplies for the pier.
