ACLU Upset Over Morning After Pill Ruling

Illinois pharmacies don't have to fill prescriptions for the Morning After pill if it's against their religious beliefs.  But Ed Yohnka with the ACLU of Illinois says the court is setting a very dangerous precedent.

Yohnka says the court a religious beliefs should not trump a woman's health.

Yohnka adds this could lead to a slippery slope when it comes to any kind of medication, including things like pain pills.

An appellate court cited the Healthcare Right of Conscious Act to protect the pharmacist's religious rights not to sell the pill.  Some often compare the pill to an abortion because it prevents pregnancy.  Yohnka says the court's decision should prompt the Illinois legislature to overturn the HRCA immediately.  The issue has been tied up in the courts since 2005 when former Governor Rod Blagojevich ordered pharmacies to provide the pill.
