Clinton Seeking Business To Take Advantage of TIF Fund; Development Opportunities

A TIF fund the City of Clinton has in place is near expiring.

A TIF in the downtown district of Clinton allows for business to take advantage of a facade grant. Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters explains the grant allows for the business to make an improvement to their storefront and have the City pay for half of the lowest bid.

The TIF is in place to help make the storefront's appearance improve or even some repairs. Mayor Peters feels the several businesses that have already taken advantage of this fund have improved their storefronts and it improves the look of the downtown area.

Along the same lines of improving the look of the downtown area, the Mayor says there are many areas of the city that are ready for development. The newest is the block of Washington Street which just saw some older buildings torn down. She notes one thing she's learned since becoming Mayor is businesses want to come in and rent instead of building. She feels this is a good opportunity for anyone with the funding to build and then lease to a business.
