Monticello Celebrating Homecoming

It's Homecoming week in the Monticello community.

Monticello features lots of tradition in their Homecoming events each year. Superintendent of Monticello Schools, Dr. Vic Zimmerman explains on top of the traditional dress up days throughout the various schools, along with the parade, Monticello invites back graduates of the school who been graduated for 30, 40 or even 50 years.

Part of Monticello's Homecoming week is the Monticello High School Hall of Fame and also their athletic Hall of Fame, which will be recognized during hafltime of the Homecoming football game. Dr. Zimmerman says they are looking forward to the coming week.

Dr. Zimmerman feels the parade might be the most unique part of the Monticello Homecoming festivities. He says between the parade being at noon on Friday afternoon and all the alumni that show up and participate, it makes it a great week.

A yearly recognition time the school has decided to incorporate into the Homecoming week activities is a student academic achievement ceremony. High School Principal Tip Reedy says this will take place Friday morning and the public and parents are invited to attend.

The theme for the Monticello High School Homecoming Dance is "A Night To Marvel" and Dr. Zimmerman says it is themed after the Marvel comic strips. He says the students have worked hard on some murals for the gym for the dance and they are pretty neat.

Monticello plays host to Tolono Unity for the Homecoming football game Friday night.
