>>Astros To Play Final Game Today As NL Club

(Chicago, IL)  --  Today is the last day the Houston Astros play as a National League team.  The Astros will make the switch from the National League Central to the American League West Division next season.  The move will create balance between the two leagues with 15 teams each as well as give all six MLB divisions five teams each.  The Astros will play their National League finale this afternoon against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, the same team they broke into the majors against as the Houston Colt .45s back in 1962.

>>Cards Lock Up Final Playoff Spot

(Undated)  --  The St. Louis Cardinals have locked up the final postseason spot.  Despite losing on Tuesday, the Cards still clinched the final National League Wild Card spot after the Dodgers lost to San Francisco.  The Atlanta Braves will host St. Louis in the newly-created Wild Card Game.  The Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals are tied for the best record in the NL, but the Nats hold the tie-breaker.

On the American League side, the Oakland Athletics moved into a tie atop the West Division with the Texas Rangers.  The winner of today's matchup takes the West.  Oakland was 13 games out of the division lead on June 30th.  The Yankees are one game up on the Orioles in the East after surviving in extras against the Red Sox.  The O's came away with a 1-0 win against the Rays and can force a one-game playoff with the Yankees if the teams were to tie for the division.  The regular season ends today.
