Bucket List Bandit Faces Federal Detention

A man nicknamed the Bucket List Bandit by the FBI is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate, who must decide whether he'll remain in jail until he can be tried on a charge that he robbed a northwestern Pennsylvania bank last month.

Fifty-4-year-old Michael Eugene Brewster is charged only in the Sept. 10 robbery of the Huntingdon National Bank branch in Erie.

But based on surveillance photos, FBI agents believe he's responsible for nine other robberies in eight other states since June 21 - including a July robbery in Utah in which he told a teller he was terminally ill.

Brewster's attorney isn't commenting, but federal prosecutors are expected to argue Brewster should remain jailed because he's a flight risk and a danger to the community. U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Paradise Baxter will hear that request Thursday.
