UPDATED: DeWitt County Emergency Sirens Sound After Glitch In EMA System

A glitch in the system at the DeWitt County Building led to the emergency sirens throughout DeWitt County to be set off.

EMA Coordinator of DeWitt County, Teresa Barnett tells Regional Radio there is no emergency, and the sirens that went off County wide just after 1 pm is a glitch in the system and emergency officials of DeWitt County are working to fix the problem.

Teresa Barnett released the following statement on Friday morning:

During the process of testing another system yesterday afternoon, the Emergency Siren Alert System was inadvertently activated. The sirens are not specifically an EMA system.  They are used for several functions.. The role of EMA Coordinator Barnett in this incident was to notify the public of the error and to communicate that there were no emergency concerns. We appreciate WHOW for helping to notify the public. The Countywide Mass Notification System was also used to alert DeWitt County residents by phone, e-mail and text. CenCom, EMA, Exelon and Clinton Power Station officials worked very closely to identify the problem and resolve the issue.
