Lincoln High School Superintendent 'Has Concerns' About Common Core

One local school leader is not a big fan of the new Common Core curriculum being implemented by the state of Illinois.

Lincoln High School Superintendent Robert Bagby says while he is not against the Common Core, he is not overly optimistic about the changes. He feels this curriculum is teaching towards one test.

One of the criticisms of the new system Bagby has is the Common Core is a focused curriculum towards 4-year college bound students. Bagby feels the new methods needs to meet the needs of students who will enter the workforce, and technical schools as well. He also feels it limits teachers on what they are able to do.

Bagby explains in education, things are always changing, but he feels if something works, they need to implement it right away. Growing up a farm kid, Bagby compares education to farming advancements. He feels if something works, implement it right away.

While Bagby has several issues with the new system, he is for it. He feels the new Common Core will be a good thing because it will allow for immediate improvements in individual schools to be changed, where as other systems, changes required a one year waiting period.
