Giants Clobber Cards, Get Even; Reds Extend Baker

>>Giants Clobber Cards To Get Even

(San Francisco, CA)  --  Angel Pagan hit a lead-off homer and the Giants went on to crush the Cardinals, 7-1, in Game Two of the NLCS.  Marco Scutaro and Ryan Theriot [[ TAIR-ee-oh ]] each drove in two runs to help the Giants even the best-of-seven series at a game apiece.  Theriot came on after Scutaro left after the fifth inning with a hip injury.  Ryan Vogelsong fired seven innings of four-hit, one-run ball to get the win.  Chris Carpenter doubled in a run in the second for St. Louis, which will host Game Three on Wednesday.  On the mound, Carpenter allowed five runs, two earned, in four innings to take the loss.

>>Reds Give Baker Two-Year Extension

(Cincinnati, OH)  --  The Cincinnati Reds and manager Dusty Baker have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension.  The new deal will keep Baker in Cincinnati through 2014.  The 63-year-old guided the Reds to a 97-and-65 record this season and the National League Central Division pennant.  The team lost, however, in five games to the San Francisco Giants in the opening round of the playoffs.  Baker is 419-and-391 since taking over the Reds in 2008.  His 1,581 career wins ranks 19th all-time and second among active managers.

>>Tigers Look To Take Commanding Lead On Yankees

(Detroit, MI)  --  The Detroit Tigers look to take a commanding lead in the American League Championship Series when they host the New York Yankees in Game Three on Tuesday.  The next three games of the best-of-seven set will take place in Detroit.  The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the series after winning both games in New York.  Anibal Sanchez struck out seven over seven shutout innings as the Tigers blanked the Yankees 3-0 in Game Two on Sunday.  Justin Verlander will get the ball in Game Three for the Tigers.  Verlander is 2-and-0 with a 0.56 ERA this postseason.  The Yankees will counter with Phil Hughes, who gave up just one run in six-and-two-thirds innings in a no-decision in Game Four of the ALDS.
