Cards Back In Action Tonight; Tigers Go Up 3-0

>>Tigers Hold Off Yankees To Take 3-0 ALCS Lead

(Detroit, MI)  --  Justin Verlander pitched into the ninth inning and the Tigers held off the Yankees, 2-1, in Game Three of the ALCS.  Verlander allowed a solo homer in the ninth to Eduardo Nunez, but scattered three hits, a walk and three strikeouts over eight-and-a-third innings to earn the win.  Phil Coke permitted two hits in the ninth, but held on to earn his second save.  

Delmon Young homered and Miguel Cabrera doubled in a run for the Tigers, who hold a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven set.  Detroit can advance to the World Series with a win Wednesday night.  Phil Hughes took the loss after allowing a run in three-plus innings.  Hughes had to leave in the fourth due to a back issue.  Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher were not in the lineup for the Yankees.

>>NLCS Shifts To St. Louis Tied At One

(St. Louis, MO)  --  The National League Championship Series shifts to St. Louis for Game Three this afternoon at Busch Stadium.  The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals are tied at a game apiece in the best-of-seven series after splitting the first two games at AT&T Park.  Matt Cain will take the mound for the Giants, while the Cards counter with Kyle Lohse.  The Cardinals built a 6-0 lead and held on to win Game One 6-4.  The Giants bounced back with a 7-1 win in Game Two.  The teams split a four-game series in St. Louis back in August.  Games Four and Five will also be in St. Louis Thursday and Friday night before the series heads back to San Francisco, if necessary.
