The Logan County Board is working to come up with the money to pay for the trials of 2 brothers charged in the deaths of 5 members of a central Illinois family.
The board will decide next week whether to make big cuts in next year's budget or sell $1 million in bonds.
The looming legal tab involves the trials of Christopher Harris and Jason Harris. They've both pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Ruth and Rick Gee and 3 of their children. The Gees were killed in their home in Beason in 2009.
Board member Jan Schumacher says the county could face up to $600,000 for trial costs in the next fiscal year.
