Cards Take 3-1 Lead; Tigers Await

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Adam Wainwright fired seven innings of four-hit, one-run ball to lead the Cardinals to an 8-3 win over the Giants in Game Four of the NLCS.  Wainwright struck out five and walked none to earn the win.  Jon Jay, Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina plated two runs apiece to help the defending World Series champs take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven set.  The Cards can close out the series with a win Friday night.  Pablo Sandoval belted a two-run homer and Hunter Pence added a solo shot for San Francisco.  Tim Lincecum allowed four runs in four-and-two-thirds innings to take the loss.

(Detroit, MI)  --  The Detroit Tigers are heading to the World Series.  The Tigers beat the New York Yankees 8-1 to sweep the American League Championship Series in four games.  Jhonny Peralta homered twice and Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson also went deep for Detroit, which outhit the Yankees 16-to-2.  Max Scherzer struck out ten over five-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball for the win.  CC Sabathia gave up six runs in less than four innings to take the loss for New York.  Nick Swisher doubled in the Yankees' lone run in the sixth.  Tigers outfielder Delmon Young was named ALCS MVP.
