Social Security Looks To Aid Applicants Of Disability Benefits

Many people have questions and concerns about the process of applying for disability benefits.
 
According to Jack Myers, of Social Security, there are many ways to handle quesitons regarding disability. He says one of the first steps should be to gathering information at the Social Security website. There, a person can find overviews and a starter kit.

Myers adds for anyone interested in disability, there has to be some sort of permanence to a condition. In order to qualify for disability, their condition should last for at least a year. He notes a terminal illness also qualifies.  There are a couple options to apply. Myers says an applications can be completed online or over the phone.

The severity of one's medical condition will be evaluated so medical records will be requested and viewed. Myers warns this process can take some time, even up to a couple months.  He says medical records already in your possession can speed up the application process. Myers says Social Security has been lookind to speeding up this process through a new initiative, especially for more sever condiitons.
