DCRA To Put On Dinner Theatre Fundraiser

The Clinton community is about to be treated to a special piece of local theatre.

The DCRA is presenting a play called "Welcome to Big Rock" in an effort to raise funds to restore the Magill Hotel in Downton Clinton. Mark Kilough, with the Dewitt County Restoration Associtaion, says this is their fourth play fundraiser. He hopes the progress they've made so far in restoring the house will help be the catalyst for other renovations around town. He says the money from this play will help pay expenses involving the H-VAC system for the retail space.

The play, written by local talent Melanie Cheatham, started rehearsals in early summer. DCRA member Amy Robinson, who has a role in the play, says "Welcome to Big Rock" is about a small town that decides to put on a local version of popular "talent shows" that will be seen on TV.

Robinson explains, like most productions, there are usually some bumps in the road. Yet, everyone has pulled together and made a great show. She says audience members will not believe the range of talent that will be seen onstage, both in the acting and singing departments. Kilough adds there is just as much talent behind the scenes as there is on stage as well.

Doors open at 1 on the 4th and the play will begin at 2. Tickets for the dinner theatre on the 2nd and 3rd cost $40. The 4th will be a dessert-only matinee that costs $25.
