State Senator Calls For DOC Investigation

The state’s Department of Corrections Director Salvador Godinez has a dismissive attitude when it comes to the increased gang violence in state prisons.  That’s according to State Senator John O. Jones, who’s calling on Governor Quinn to launch a formal investigation into what’s really happening behind the prison doors.

While he’s calling on Governor Quinn to help fix the problem but, he says he doesn’t think Quinn is to blame.

Former and current prison employees have contacted Jones about the violence and expressed concern over their safety.  Jones believes the gang activity is directly tied to Godinez’s ability to lead the system.  He says Godinez should be fired, along with Executive Chief Jerry Buscher, Deputy Chief of Operations Kevin Gilson and Southern Illinois Deputy Director Ty Bates.   Jones says those names consistently come up in discussions of improprieties or misconduct within the Department.  He plans to introduce a resolution asking the Senate to approve the investigation when they return to special session next month.
