A Peoria Heights infant who was rushed to the hospital after he was allegedly shaken by his father has died.

Six-week-old Asa Knowles was pronounced dead late Saturday night at Children's Hospital of Illinois. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

The boy was taken to an area hospital Tuesday. His father, Zachary Knowles told authorities the infant became unresponsive after he was bouncing him to calm him down.

The father was charged with aggravated battery to a child and other charges. On Sunday morning, police said the charges had not been upgraded and that the father remained in custody.

In 2008, Zachary Knowles was arrested for fracturing the skull of the 18-month-old son of his girlfriend and later convicted of domestic battery.
