Davis In Awe of Support In Congressional Win

Republican Rodney Davis says he's in awe of the support he received in his win over Democrat David Gill for a U.S. House seat in central Illinois.

In a statement, Davis says the campaign was about serious issues facing the country and candidates who were serious about solving them.

Gill initially faced Republican incumbent Tim Johnson of Urbana in the 13th District. But weeks after an easy primary win in the new district Johnson announced that he wouldn't seek re-election.

Republicans picked Davis to fill the place on the ballot.

Davis was a member of Rep. John Shimkus' staff and lives in Taylorville. Gill is a Bloomington physician who challenged Johnson in past elections.

The race was among the most closely-watched in Illinois.
