DeWitt County Voter Turn Out Up For 2012 General Election; Early Voting Sets Record

It was a solid voter turn out for the 2012 general election in DeWitt County.

With very hotly contested local races, state races and one of the most important Presidential elections in the nation's history, voter turnout for DeWitt County was very strong. Dana Smith, County Clerk for DeWitt County says they had a record turn out for early voting. She feels having that convenience prior to election day may be something a lot of people are getting used to.

During the primary in March, there were some ballot issues that caused the results to be finalized very late. Smith says they did not have a problem with that for this election, but she notes, it seems each election there is something small that always seems to go wrong.

The results from Tuesday night for DeWitt County races are not final yet. Smith explains she can still receive absentee ballots for 14 days if post-marked in time. She says after the 14 days and the absentees are all submitted, she will then count them and finalize the numbers.

This 2012 election was one that was hotly contested from local races, to state and federal races. Several County Board District winners won by incredibly small margins, and with absentee ballots still to come in, it could certainly change the results Regional Radio News reported Tuesday night.
