New Leaf Vac System Making For More Productive Leaf Clean Up Season

The fall cleanup season is in full swing as area residents spend their free hours raking, blowing and sweeping leaves.

Clinton City officials are reminding residents their leaves can be picked up by the city's Public Works Department. Public Work Director, Steve Lobb explains they have divided the city up into five sections, and they will work in each section until it is complete.

Clean up this year for City workers has been much more efficient thanks to a new piece of equipment. Lobb explains they have a new leaf vac system that can go on the back of a regular city truck, and makes hauling it around much easier, so they can hit more houses in less time.

The efficiency and frequency of leaf pick up in a certain portion of the city is dependent on the weather. Lobb says in a good weather week, they can hit the entire town in a week. He notes however, if it rains a lot, they may have to put off their pick up for a day or two to allow the leaves to dry out.

Crews will continue to rotate zones of the city for the next couple of weeks. Lobb says it all depends on how many leaves are left, but he speculates after Thanksgiving or the early part of December would be when they would wrap up leaf clean up for the year.
