Long time County Coroner Alex Calvert has decided to step down from his post, and running in his place unopposed was Randy Rice.

Rice explains he and Calvert share a close relationship, in working together at Calvert Funeral Homes in Clinton. Rice feels after 16 years as Chief Deputy Coroner, he is ready to step into the position of the County Coroner.

In a county like DeWitt, the Coroner position is not a full time position. Rice explains the Coroner basically investigates deaths, whether they are homicides, accidental deaths, or natural deaths, he is the one who makes the determination as to what happened.

Rice says he is looking forward to serving the people of DeWitt County and hopes to do that well. He feels his experience as Chief Deputy Coroner and working as  a Funeral Director will carry over into this position.
