Rams-49ers Game Suffers Clock Error

The first tie in an NFL game since 2008 wasn't the only strange thing to happen during Sunday's contest between the Rams and 49ers in San Francisco.  In the second quarter, Niners quarterback Alex Smith completed a pass which required a measurement to determine whether the play gained enough for a first down.  During the measurement, the clock operator never stopped the clock, causing one-minute-and-12-seconds to run off during a stoppage in play.  The play was ruled short of a first down before San Francisco ended up converting on fourth down.  The game went to overtime before ending in a 24-24 tie.  The NFL had no comment on the officiating blunder.
