MLB Manager of the Year Awards Handed Out; Blockbuster Trade On Horizon

(New York, NY) -- Davey Johnson of the Washington Nationals is the National League Manager of the Year. Johnson won in a vote of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He led the Nationals to the majors' best record this season at 98-and-64 and the NL East title. The 69-year-old beat out Dusty Baker of the Cincinnati Reds and Bruce Bochy [[ BO-chee ]] of the San Francisco Giants.

(New York, NY) -- Bob Melvin of the Oakland Athletics is the American League Manager of the Year. He won the honor in a vote of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. The 51-year-old guided the A's to a 94-and-68 record, capturing the AL West title on the final day of the regular season. Melvin beat out the Baltimore Orioles' Buck Showalter and Robin Ventura of the Chicago White Sox.

>>Blue Jays Swing Mega-Deal With Marlins

(Undated) -- The Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins are on the verge of a blockbuster trade. Multiple outlets are reporting Miami will send shortstop Jose Reyes and pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson to Toronto. The Jays also get catcher John Buck and utilityman Emilio Bonifacio in the deal. Miami will receive shortstops Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria, and pitchers Henderson Alvarez and Justin Nicolino. The Fish are also expected to acquire two top prospects. Major League Baseball is expected to explore the amount of money and contracts being exchanged before signing off on the deal, which could be finalized this morning.

>>Cardinals Release McClellan

(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals have released reliever Kyle McClellan. The right-hander made 244 relief appearances since 2008 and has a career 3.69 ERA. St. Louis also signed catcher Rob Johnson to a minor league deal. The 30-year-old split time between the Mets and their Triple-A team in Buffalo last season.
