Clinton Farmer's Market Enjoys Successful 2012 Despite Drought

Despite a drought stricken summer in Central Illinois, the Clinton Farmer's Market had a successful 2012 year.

Many local produce growers struggled to keep their plants healthy in a sweltering and dry summer, but those that were able to and sold produce at the Clinton Farmer's Market had a lot of success. Elizabeth Burns with the Clinton Area Farmer's and Artisan's Market says even though there was limited choices for those that frequent the market, this summer they continued to see good crowds showing up on Saturday mornings.

As things have already wrapped up for the 2012 year, Farmer's Market organizers are looking ahead and planning for 2013. Burns explains they are working on getting everything in place for the EBT machines they will have next year, which will be made possible thanks to a grant through the USDA. They are also looking forward to having goat's milk soap for next year, an item that has been missing the past several years.

Looking ahead to 2013, Burns explains she would like to see some local musicians and bands come and be a part of their Saturday morning markets. Periodically throughout the year, local bands and artists will set up on the stage on Mr. Lincoln Square, and Burns would like to see more of them do that.

Burns encourages those bands or entertainers who would like to come and perform at the Saturday markets to get a hold of her, she can give more details. She also encourages recommendations of entertainment as well.
